Yoga & Writing: The Writers Sword of Active Compassion (All Levels & Genres)

FILLED UP.

William Faulkner, Toni Morrison and Maxine Hong Kingston deem it essential for writers: compassion. The writers sword of compassion is not a doting grandmothers tenderness. It is that blade of empathy that can slice through delusion, obfuscation, and even politeness in the name of artful truth. It is a courageous and fierce embodiment of all characters and subject matter the good, the bad, and the downright depraved. In this workshop, well integrate numerous yoga philosophies and practices so we can courageously extend compassion to the webbed self, difficult characters, the marginalized voices of society, and even the animal world. We will consider how suffering and the desire to alleviate suffering give us a key to crafting compelling character arcs, complex characterization, and body language in story and poetry. Read more about this workshop and about this dynamic conference that gathers a lively and talented group of writers who teach, guide, and inspire. Agents and editors offer consultations. Nightly readings. Daily events. Jeffrey also will teach early morning yoga classes on the courtyard for conference participants.
